Dulquer Salmaan’s Smart Script Choices

Attaining stardom is widely regarded as a major milestone for any actor. However, it is the ability to choose the right scripts that truly sustains and elevates that stardom. Script selection remains one of the most challenging aspects of the film industry, with even seasoned artists often failing to gauge a project’s potential at the narration stage.
South Indian heartthrob Dulquer Salmaan appears to be operating in a league of his own when it comes to this crucial skill. His recent career decisions, including several high-profile films he consciously walked away from, stand as a testament to his sharp judgment and foresight. Interestingly, his timely exits from some of the biggest box-office disasters in recent times have now become a case study within the industry.
While many actors tend to get carried away by success streaks and sign films without closely evaluating the script, Dulquer has consistently proven to be an exception. He boldly opted out of ambitious projects such as Indian 2, Thug Life, and Parasakthi, despite the scale and star power attached to them.
At the time, several industry insiders questioned his decisions, especially considering that Indian 2 and Thug Life were helmed by legendary filmmakers Shankar and Mani Ratnam respectively. Dulquer was reportedly approached for Siddharth’s role in Indian 2 and Simbu’s character in Thug Life, yet he declined both offers without hesitation. He also turned down Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi, which eventually failed to strike a chord with audiences.
In hindsight, Dulquer’s choices have been thoroughly vindicated, as all the films he rejected ended up as major box-office disappointments. His refusal to be swayed by big names or grand scale highlights his strong belief in content over credentials.
With every rejected project meeting a similar fate, Dulquer Salmaan’s script sense has earned widespread admiration, prompting other stars to rethink their approach to script selection.
Up next, the Lucky Baskhar actor will be seen in the upcoming Telugu romantic drama Aakasamlo Oka Tara, directed by Pavan Sadineni, further adding to the anticipation surrounding his carefully curated filmography.
