The Congress and other opposition parties including the TDP and TJS have joined forces to bring an end to the regime of KCR.
As of now, this alliance is being termed as ‘Mahakutami’ (Grand or Great Alliance). However, some leaders in the alliance are not happy with the term Mahakutami and want the name to be changed to Praja Kutami. The opinion is that Mahakutami is not a lucky name.
In 2009, a Mahakutami was formed by TDP, TRS and other parties against the Congress led by YSR. The Mahakutami failed badly then and YSR single-handedly led the Congress Party to a resounding victory.The Congress which fought the Mahakutami in 2009 is now part of the alliance in 2019. Keeping the 2009 results in mind, Congress leaders want the name to be changed to Praja Kutami.
