Former Karwan MLA from MIM Mohd Muqteda Khan alias Afsar Khan died on Friday. Following severe illness, Afsar breathed his last at a private hospital in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. He represented Karwan assembly from 2009-2014 but lost in 2014 general elections.
Senior Leader from MIM, Afsar had been involved in several controversial incidents in the past. Afsar had fired in the air over a dispute with GHMC officials at Abids main road back in 2008. Khan’s alleged attack on junior doctors at Niloufer Hospital in December 2007 had sparked a protest by medicos and even an attempt-murder case was registered against him.
Afsar was one among the three MIM MLAs who attacked controversial Bangladeshi novelist Taslima Nasreen at Press Club, Somajiguda. He was accused in several other cases. The 65-year-old Afsar, who completed BA, ran a real estate business.
His brother Meraj Khan, who died in 2008, was known as ‘Meraj Pahelwan’. Both Afsar Khan and his brother shot into the limelight because of their real estate business.,
