If some people try to be brave and muster courage and express themselves, then huge controversies erupt. No field is immune to controversy and film and art always is surrounded by controversy. Some say there is thin red line and one should not cross, but some influential few crosses and come out unscatched while mere mortals can not even make normal films expressing their views.
Right from Maniratnam’s Roja, Bombay to Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti, all films faced the music of influential persons. Tollywood has had its own share of controversies and previous year has seen so many that one wonder whether all the protests are genuine.
Successful films like Denikaina Ready and Cameraman Ganga Tho Rambabu plunged into controversies while even at the start of the year there were many controversies surrounding Nayak. Even for small things like character names, titles protests are erupting and many film makers feel if one try to force too many restrictions on them, then it will kill Indian cinema in the long run. They feel that there won’t be any subject, name, title or song which they could include for the fear of facing opposition.
Now most recent to fall in Controversy web is Kamal Haasan’s Viswaroopam. Many with out watching the film started protesting and one wonder what good or purpose it serves. Hope sanity prevails in the end and screening of any film that passes censor board should be allowed. If any film is found objectionable then any party should approach law enforcing authorities rather than arm twist the film makers using brute force.
