The lack of opportunities for Telugu-speaking heroines in the Telugu film industry has been a long-discussed issue. Actresses like Swathi Reddy and Eesha Rebba have openly voiced their concerns, stating that Telugu girls are rarely given first preference during casting. Sadly, this sentiment seems to ring true once again with the case of Sridevi from the film Court.
After the release of Court, Sridevi received a lot of love and attention from audiences. The film was a commercial success, and her performance — particularly in the popular song “Premalo” — earned her praise for her charm and dancing skills. Many expected her to land a slew of new offers in Telugu cinema. However, to everyone’s surprise, she is now preparing for her debut in Tamil.
Recently, Sridevi was seen at the launch event of her first Tamil film, where she stars alongside producer-turned-actor KJR. Known for producing hit films like Hero, Doctor, and Ayalaan with Sivakarthikeyan, KJR is now stepping into acting, and this film, directed by Regan Stanislaus, marks his second venture as a hero.
It raises an important question: Did Sridevi not receive any substantial offers from Telugu filmmakers post-Court? Or were the offers simply not good enough to match the breakthrough she had with her debut? Either way, her decision to move to Tamil cinema is once again sparking debate over the limited prospects for native Telugu-speaking actresses within their own industry.
