The Cyberabad Police have registered a case against popular YouTuber Anvesh, known for his travel vlog channel “Naa Anveshana,” for allegedly making false claims about top government officials in connection with a betting app scam.
Anvesh had alleged that several IAS officers and the Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) were involved in a ₹300 crore betting scam. He claimed that these officials accepted bribes of up to ₹300 each from various promoters to permit the functioning of certain betting apps, which were advertised via Hyderabad Metro Rail.
In a now-viral video, Anvesh accused high-ranking officials — including DGP Anjani Kumar and Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director N. V. S. Reddy — of financial misappropriation. He further implicated IAS officers Santosh Kumar, Dana Kishor, Vikas Raj, among others, accusing them of facilitating app-based betting operations.
Following a formal complaint by A. Naveen Kumar, a staff member in the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate’s social media wing, the police registered an FIR against Anvesh. Authorities deemed his accusations “baseless and unverified” and initiated legal action for spreading misinformation.
Anvesh has previously published multiple videos raising concerns over betting apps operating in the Telugu entertainment ecosystem. In earlier videos, he claimed that transactions exceeding ₹1,000 crore were routed through such apps. He also alleged that several Tollywood actors and influencers promoted these platforms and benefitted from them.
Recently, the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) withdrew advertisements for betting platforms from metro premises after a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Telangana High Court. The petitioner accused the Metro of enabling promotion of illegal offshore betting apps through these advertisements.
This latest incident is part of a wider crackdown by the Hyderabad and Cyberabad police forces, who have filed multiple cases against celebrities and influencers for their alleged role in promoting betting apps.
In March, police booked Tollywood personalities including Rana Daggubati, Vijay Deverakonda, and Naga Chaitanya in similar cases. These celebrities, however, denied any involvement in illegal activities, stating that their promotional content was based on commercial agreements and not intended to promote betting.
Cybercrime authorities also recently filed cases against actress Lakshmi Manchu and 19 other social media influencers under various sections of the IT Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Telangana Gaming Act.
The case against YouTuber Anvesh reflects growing concern over the misuse of digital platforms to spread unverified allegations, especially involving public officials. As betting apps come under increasing legal scrutiny in India, enforcement agencies are tightening the reins on influencers, celebrities, and online personalities who may be promoting them—knowingly or unknowingly.
