Devara Opens Modestly in Japan Despite High Expectations

Jr. NTR’s much-anticipated film Devara: Part 1, directed by Koratala Siva, recently made its way to Japanese theaters. To build excitement, both NTR and Koratala actively participated in promotional events, engaging in media interviews and fan interactions. However, despite the buzz surrounding their visit, industry experts remain cautious about the film’s box office potential in Japan, especially after Kalki 2898 AD failed to meet expectations there.

According to reports from Japanese media, Devara grossed approximately 11 million yen in its first two days, drawing around 6,200 viewers. While these numbers are respectable, they fall short compared to past Indian blockbusters in Japan, such as RRR (2.42 billion yen), Muthu (405 million yen), and Baahubali 2 (305 million yen).

The film’s opening figures indicate a steady but not overwhelming reception. With Devara 2 already in the pipeline, fans are eager to see whether the sequel can generate a stronger impact. However, with Jr. NTR’s packed schedule—including War 2, a collaboration with Prashanth Neel, and a rumored pan-India project with Nelson Dilipkumar—the sequel’s timeline remains uncertain.
