Veteran actress Suchitra Sen has breathed her last on Friday morning at a private hospital in Kolkata. She was 83. Suchitra passed away at 8.25 AM today due to cardiac arrest. She was admitted to hospital on December 23 with severe respiratory tract infection and has been in the hospital for the past 26 days.
Suchitra is noted for iconic Parvathi role in ‘Devdas’ where she shared screen space with Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala. Hailing from West Bengal, she had starred in memorable Hindi films like ‘Aandhi’ and ‘Saat Paake Bandha’, ‘Agnipariksha’, ‘Saptapadi’ and ‘Deep Jwele Jai’ in Bengali.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had visited her seven times over the past few days.
