Top producer Dil Raju has finally spoken out about the massive financial setback he suffered with Game Changer, the much-hyped film starring Ram Charan and directed by Shankar. When the project was first announced, expectations were sky-high — with a star hero, a legendary filmmaker, and one of Telugu cinema’s most successful producers backing it, the buzz was intense.
However, the tide turned over time. Prolonged delays and lackluster promotional content dampened the excitement. By the time Game Changer hit theatres, audience interest had significantly waned. The film received negative feedback right from day one and ended up being a major box-office failure. Dil Raju confirmed that the film resulted in the biggest financial loss of his career, with losses reportedly crossing ₹100 crore.
In a candid statement, Raju revealed that he had a feeling things might not go well even before the release. “I sensed the outcome early and tried to prepare myself mentally,” he said. Despite the disappointment, he held out hope for another film from his banner — Sankranthiki Vasthunam, a festive release targeting the Sankranti season.
Fortunately, Sankranthiki Vasthunam turned out to be a blockbuster and helped Raju recover. He said he chose not to take any profits from that film. Instead, he redirected all the earnings to compensate the distributors who had lost heavily on Game Changer. “Helping the distributors stay afloat was more important at that point,” he explained, adding that the gesture also brought some relief to the broader film trade.
Raju expressed heartfelt gratitude to Megastar Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan for supporting the Sankranti release of Sankranthiki Vasthunam, even in the wake of the earlier setback. “Their understanding and cooperation meant a lot during a difficult phase,” he said.
While Game Changer ended up being a tough chapter in his career, the success of Sankranthiki Vasthunam offered a silver lining — a reminder of the resilience of the industry and the importance of standing by each other during testing times.
