However, according to several young directors, the reality behind the scenes can be very different.
While many newcomers choose to remain silent about their experiences due to fear of losing opportunities, a few have begun speaking out about the struggles they face while trying to secure their first big break.
One such voice is Sudheer Sriram, director of Sampradayani Suppini Sudhhapusani. He recently opened up about the challenges he encountered when approaching individuals associated with prominent production houses. According to him, initial conversations with well-known producers often seemed promising, with interest shown in his ideas. However, the enthusiasm reportedly faded without explanation, leaving him in prolonged uncertainty.
Sudheer expressed disappointment over what he described as a pattern of disregard toward young directors. He pointed out that representatives of top producers frequently keep filmmakers waiting for extended periods without giving clear feedback on their scripts. This lack of communication, he said, places immense pressure on aspiring directors, erodes their confidence, and leaves them feeling demoralised.
He further stressed that such treatment can be emotionally draining, especially for those pinning their hopes on one breakthrough opportunity that could change their careers.
The issue raises a larger question about accountability within the industry. If Tollywood truly aims to nurture new talent, industry stakeholders may need to ensure that emerging directors are treated with professionalism and transparency—rather than being left at the mercy of intermediaries.
