Film trade is a chain. It involves producer – distributors / buyers- exhibitors and several other people at theatres who depend on the Film’s business at Box Office. Even if any one among them incurs loss due to a film, the movie can’t be called as dispute-less hit. For instance few distributors buy the film from producer and sells it off to other distributors for a high price. Though the movie collects well and the distributor who bought the film from other distributor fails to rake in profit, the movie can’t be termed as dispute-less hit. Even if the buyer recovers his total money and fails to get profit, the movie is a disputed hit.
In few other cases, producer might sell the film at deficit and if the film turns out to be big hit and gets huge profits to its distributors, actual producer won’t get benefited much. Kalyan Ram’s Pataas falls under this category as producer Kalyan Ram gained little whereas distributor Dil Raju made a big fortune.
While 2015’s first half is a big disappointment for Tollywood, it’s the second half that stands as winner. The latter half started with a bang, back to back giant hits- Baahubali, Srimanthudu, Bhale Bhale Magadivoi, Kumari 21 F and Raju Gari Gadi. Here is the list of top five hits in Telugu for 2015.
1. Baahubali: The Beginning
Expectations were sky high on this Prabhas and Rana starrer film before its theatrical release, since it was helmed by director SS Rajamouli who had made only blockbusters earlier. Despite reaching all the expectations and smashing all box office records, Baahubali made not just Telugus but also every Indian proud with critical applause here as well as in other countries for the visual grandeur and gripping narration.
2. Srimanthudu
This Mahesh Babu starrer was to clash with Baahubali, but the makers had postponed their film to offer maximum of theaters for the Rajamouli directorial. Srimanthudu opened to gigantic positive response and collections were equally massive. The concept of ‘village adoption’ was well-liked by all sections and the Koratala Siva directorial ended as second biggest grosser in Tollywood, only after Baahubali. Lead actors- Mahesh Babu, Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu and Rajendra Prasad’s performance, Siva’s direction, DSP’s music, R Madhie’s DOP were major highlights.
3. Bhale Bhale Magadivoy
Released with least expectations, since hero Nani’s previous movies were disasters, Bhale Bhale Magadivoy picked up slowly with optimistic mouth talk. In no time, the film was declared a super hit (sleeper hit). Maruthi made a clean entertainer for image makeover and he was appreciated for hilarious writing. Nani modulated his acting style, diction and body language to fit into the role of memory loss guy and his hard work was paid with super hit result. Lavanya Tripathi was other big asset, apart from Gopi Sunder’s mesmerizing music.
4. Kumari 21F
With bold, refreshing content, Sukumar’s maiden production venture Kumari 21F broke new ground in Tollywood. Barring criticism that it’s too bold to take it, audiences made Kumari a sleeper hit.
5. Raju Garu Gadi
After disaster Genius, many thought that Omkar is out of race. But surpassing it, Omkar’s second directorial Raju Gari Gadi managed to rake in moolah. Made on shoe-string budget, the film produced by Sai Korrapati was one of the five big hits (as the film collected very high compared to its budget). Though critics panned the film’s second half, RGG a ghost-comedy featuring Ashwin, Rajeev Kanakala, Chetan, won the hearts.
