Dil Raju is unarguably the most successful Telugu filmmaker of recent times. This successful producer however is receiving frequent jolts as a distributor.
2017 has been an excellent year for Raju as a producer. Shathamanam Bhavathi, Nenu Local and Fidaa struck gold at box office with the first winning a National Film Award as well. DJ may have ended up as an average affair but Raju reportedly amassed table profits with this Bunny starrer.
Dil Raju on the other hand has faced three blows as a distributor. Nagarjuna’s devotional film ‘Om Namo Venkatesaya’ was distributed in Nizam by Raju. The film became one of the biggest disasters in the history of Telugu cinema. Gopichand’s latest release ‘Gautam Nanda’ was also distributed by Raju, and this film too is heading towards a big flop, if trade reports are to be believed. Having faith in Sukumar, Dil Raju acquired the rights of ‘Darshakudu’ but the film opened very poorly and also received below par reviews.
The exact losses incurred by Raju as a distributor will depend on the kind of deals (outright prices, advance amount etc.) he had made with the producers. Irrespective of the amount of loss, films distributed by Dil Raju becoming flops may paint a black spot on his highly credited judgemental skills.
