Pradeep Ranganathan’s third film as a lead, Dude, directed by Keerthiswaran, hit theaters on Friday and opened to a strong response at the box office. Reports indicate an opening day collection of around ₹20 crores, with a two-day total reaching approximately ₹40 crores. The film is on course to become Pradeep Ranganathan’s third 100-crore grosser.
Beyond its commercial success, Dude has generated discussions around the conflicts depicted in its story. While some viewers praised the narrative, others found certain elements less convincing. One sequence, in particular, has caught the attention of audiences on social media—the interval scene featuring Pradeep Ranganathan’s character delivering gestures and lines reminiscent of superstar Rajinikanth. Clips from the scene are widely shared online, prompting director Keerthiswaran to respond on social media: “Yes. Dedicating this sequence to the star of stars.”
Before the release, Keerthiswaran had shared that while writing the story, he imagined what Rajinikanth might have been like at 30. When he pitched the idea to the producers, the question of who should play the lead arose. “When I mentioned Pradeep Ranganathan, he agreed after hearing the story,” the director revealed.
Dude stars Pradeep Ranganathan, who has previously charmed Telugu audiences with Love Today and Dragon. The film is written and directed by Keerthiswaran, with music composed by Sai Abhyankkar, and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. It was released on October 17.
