ED Issues Notice to Vijay Sai Reddy in AP Liquor Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a notice to former YSR Congress Party MP Vijay Sai Reddy in connection with the ongoing Andhra Pradesh liquor case. He has been directed to appear before the agency for questioning on January 22.

The ED is investigating alleged irregularities in the liquor policy implemented in Andhra Pradesh between 2019 and 2024. Officials suspect large-scale money laundering and hawala transactions linked to the liquor business during the previous government’s tenure.

As part of the probe, investigators have found that the liquor procurement process was allegedly shifted from an automated system to manual approvals, a move that is believed to have enabled certain groups to manipulate supply contracts and inflate costs. The agency claims that liquor suppliers were allegedly forced to pay commissions, with the proceeds being routed through shell companies and fake invoices to conceal the money trail.

The case is being jointly investigated by the ED and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Andhra Pradesh police. Several cases have already been registered, and multiple individuals connected to the liquor trade have been questioned as part of the expanding probe.

The notice issued to Vijay Sai Reddy is being viewed as a significant development in the investigation. Further clarity on the alleged financial irregularities is expected after his appearance before the ED next week.
