‘Every Hindu Couple Should have 4 Children’

Govindadev Giriji Maharaj, a Haridwar-based godman, has stirred a controversy when he recently said that every Hindu couple should have a minimum of four children. The spiritual leader called it a need of the hour to address the issue of ‘demographic imbalance’, and protect the religion. He reportedly made this statement while addressing a public gathering at a religious event in Karnataka.

The seer called for an exemption to Hindus from the government-endorsed maximum of two children policy. He advocated that Hindus should have at least four children until the time the Uniform Civil Code is implemented in the country. The Godman said that India had lost many of its territories wherever Hindu population had reduced, resulting in demographic imbalance.

The Swami’s comments have sparked a controversy, since they were anti-govt. as well as religiously-charged.
