Exercise Increased Caution While Travelling To India: US

The United States has advised its citizens to ‘exercise increased caution’ while travelling to India. The State Department, on Wednesday, issued a new travel advisory for several countries including India, and placed countries from Level 1 to 4.

Level 1 – Exercise normal precaution

Level 2 – Exercise increased caution

Level 3 – Reconsider Travel

Level 4 – Do Not Travel

The US govt. said that the new travel advisory has been issued in order to provide citizens with clear, timely, and reliable safety and security information worldwide.

India has been ranked Level 2, i.e. the US citizens are advised to ‘exercise increased caution’ when they travel to India. However, they are asked by the govt. not to travel to Jammu and Kashmir (except for eastern Ladakh and Leh), and also not to go within 10 miles of the India-Pakistan border.

“Indian authorities report rape is one of the fastest growing crimes in India. Violent crime, such as sexual assault, has occurred at tourist sites and in other locations. Terrorists or armed groups are active in east-central India, primarily in rural areas. Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, and local government facilities,” the new India travel advisory said.

Ranking Pakistan on Level 3, the State Department advised Americans to reconsider travel to this country due to terrorism.
