As predicted, Exit Poll results indicated that BJP would sweep Gujarat and grab Himachal Pradesh. Almost all the exit polls that stated its verdict indicated a complete majority to incumbent BJP government in Gujarat and a change of government in Himachal Pradesh. Since Gujarat state was earlier represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi (who served as Chief Minister of Gujarat for over 12 years), naturally, the election results of the state have become quite significant.
Gujarat
Six of the seven exit polls show the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) heading towards a big win in the Gujarat Assembly elections 2017. However, the seven exit polls stated that Congress is going to lose Gujarat. The aggregate of the exit polls say that 111 of Gujarat’s 182 seats will be bagged by BJP. However, this is five less than what the party scored in the 2012 polls. However, most of the exit polls predicted that over 100 seats for the BJP in Gujarat, comfortably above the 92-seat majority mark in the 182-seat Assembly.
Himachal Pradesh
All the seven exit polls predicted that Congress is going to suffer huge defeat in Himachal Pradesh. It is projected that the BJP is likely to win more than 50 seats, which is way above the majority mark of 35 in the 68-seat Assembly.
The result of Gujarat is likely to make its impact in the upcoming elections in the other states as well including Karnataka in South and the next 2019 general elections for Lok Sabha.
