Getting into the Sankranthi race while three other biggies are in contention is affecting the prospects of Express Raja. This Sharwanand starrer is the low budget movie among the Sankranthi releases. Express Raja attracted buyers as it was produced by UV Creations that has a very good track record. However buyers didn’t expect Express Raja to compete with many big films.
Although UV Creations managed to get decent amount of screens in AP and Telangana, it is turning out to be extremely difficult to get theaters in other states. Express Raja is not releasing in Chennai as there are many Tamil releases along with the Telugu biggies. Even the buyer from Karnataka has backed out at the last minute, sources said.
The buyer agreed to pay 35 lakh rupees for Karnataka rights with so much buzz going around Express Raja. But the buyer didn’t expect the movie to compete with many big films. Competition is so high that Soggade Chinni Nayana’s Karnataka distribution rights were sold for just Rs. 30 lakhs.
Same buyer who made an agreement with Express Raja bagged SCN rights for cheap and he felt that 35 lakh for ER is very high in this scenario. So he said he will pay only Rs. 15 lakh for Karnataka rights to which the makers of Express Raja didn’t agree. As of now Express Raja is not releasing in Karnataka. It may have a delayed release depending upon its performance in Telugu states.
