Is Nani Still a Tier-2 Hero?

There is no need for a special introduction to Natural Star Nani’s journey. For nearly 18 years, he has been consistently making his mark as a leading actor in the film industry. Over time, he has built a unique and strong image of his own, earning the title of “Natural Star” from audiences and critics alike. After Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh Babu, Nani is often regarded as one of the actors with a massive female fan following. His journey from Ashta Chamma to HIT: The Third Case has been remarkably diverse and inspiring. While balancing regular commercial films, Nani has never shied away from experimentation, proving himself as an actor who prioritizes performance-oriented roles for more than a decade and a half.
The business surrounding Nani’s films has grown significantly over the years. Budgets have increased according to the scale of his stories, and the box office numbers from the past five years clearly reflect this upward trend. There is hardly any star in Tollywood who does not admire Nani’s acting. Almost every top hero treats him with great respect, appreciates his script selection, and even wishes to portray roles similar to the ones Nani chooses. Despite achieving such recognition and success, a section of the audience and industry still labels him as a Tier-2 hero, hesitating to include him in the Tier-1 category.
When compared to stars like Mahesh Babu, Ram Charan, Allu Arjun, NTR, and Prabhas, some are reluctant to place Nani on the same pedestal. Attempts to project him as a Tier-2 star continue, even today. What makes Nani’s story more inspiring is the fact that he comes without any film background. Rising from being an assistant director to becoming a star hero, he carved his own path by understanding directors’ visions and constantly reinventing himself.
If one closely looks at his achievements, Dasara marked his entry into the prestigious ₹100-crore club, eventually collecting over ₹120 crore in the long run. This was followed by Hi Nanna, which grossed more than ₹70 crore. Later, Saripodhaa Sanivaaram once again crossed the ₹100-crore mark. With HIT: The Third Case, directed by Sailesh Kolanu, Nani entered the ₹100-crore club for the second time. Currently, he is working on The Paradise, a pan-India project being made on a massive budget, with equally impressive business figures already reported. Additionally, he has also committed to another pan-India film with director Sujeeth.
Given this consistent box office performance, growing market, and pan-India presence, it remains to be seen whether those who still consider Nani a Tier-2 hero will finally acknowledge him as a true Tier-1 star.
