Slowly but surely the Congress is taking steps to get back in the reckoning in Andhra Pradesh. The protest by its MP’s in Parliament today demanding special status for Andhra Pradesh was reported by all media organizations and even the national media.
The Congress interestingly asked the TDP MP’s to resign from the NDA and fight for Andhra Pradesh. By doing so, the Congress is giving it back to the TDP who had accused the Congressmen of continuing in office without resigning for the cause of Samaikhyandhra.
It also sends across the message that the TDP is interested in power and not the welfare of AP if they do not resign. The one crore signature campaign in the State by the congress has also met with support in AP.
Congress stands to gain either way by pressing for special status for AP. By agitating, they will surely get the credit for special status if it is accorded. At the same time, it knows that the BJP is not in a position to concede the same. Hence the Congress would be seen as having championed a just cause and the BJP as someone who went back on their promises.
The public has a short memory! Come 2019, who knows? With TDP messing up AP in the name of new capital and YSRCP conveniently silent, the Congress might end up as an alternative provide they keep the momentum going.
