After her powerful debut in Dangal, Fatima Sana Shaikh is once again in the limelight for her role in Aap Jaisa Koi, a family drama that explores the complexities of relationships, companionship, and finding equality in love under unexpected circumstances.
Fatima believes that compromises are a part of love, but only when they are mutual. According to her, a successful relationship is one where both partners work together without losing their individuality. If only one person keeps compromising, she says, it cannot truly be called love. Speaking about breakups, she admits they are always painful. Being an emotional and passionate person, she feels every emotion intensely, but also believes that experiencing both joy and sorrow is essential for personal growth.
For Fatima, equality in a relationship comes down to mutual respect. She feels that while each gender has its own strengths, real equality is when both people truly listen to and value each other. That, she feels, is the foundation of meaningful love.
Talking about her experience working on Aap Jaisa Koi, Fatima shares that she particularly enjoyed playing a character who lives in a joint family, something she has never experienced in real life. She currently lives with her mother and brother and describes their journey as that of outsiders in the industry. So, stepping into the warmth and dynamic of a joint family through her character was both new and fulfilling. She also shared her excitement about learning the piano for the film, a skill she trained in for six months to prepare for the role.
In the film, Fatima is paired opposite R. Madhavan, who is considerably older, sparking fresh conversations about December-May pairings in cinema. Off screen, too, she continues to stay in the spotlight due to her rumored relationship with Ul Jalool Ishq co-star Vijay Varma. Although she recently dismissed the dating rumors, saying “There are no good guys in real life; they exist only in films,” she later posted pictures alongside Vijay, Rekha, and others at the Umrao Jaan screening, keeping fans intrigued.
Fatima’s honest takes on love and life, combined with her bold role choices, continue to make her one of the most interesting and authentic voices in contemporary cinema.
