Continuing the age-old tradition of nominating an Anglo-Indian member to the legislative Assembly, Governor ESL Narsimhan on Thursday nominated the first Anglo-Indian member to the Telangana Assembly. On the recommendation of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Mr Elvis Stephenson has been nominated by Governor to the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
With the latest addition of Stephenson, the total strength in Telangana Assembly has shot up to 120. Stephenson holds a special record of being the first Anglo-Indian MLA of the first Assembly of Telangana.
It’s usual tradition to nominate a member to Assembly from Anglo-Indian community living in Secunderabad. Earlier the members were to be nominated to the house of undivided Andhra Pradesh. Since AP has been bifurcated and Telangana state is carved out of it, CM KCR recommended a member to Governor.
