An train accident near Madakasira village of Anantapur district had taken the lives of five including Karnataka MLA, Venkatesh Naik. The accident occured when a truck carrying a granite boulder rammed into the Nanded bound Bangalore-Nanded express train at around 2:30 AM today.
Venkatesh Naik was reportedly going to his constituency, Devadurga from Bangalore. The lorry reportedly broke the railway gate and rammed in to the train. It is said that negligence of the lorry driver resulted in the accident.
While a boulder destroyed the first AC coach, it also derailed four coaches in total. Several trains in this route are running very late as a result. Some of the trains are diverted through other routes. Relief measures are currently on.
