Priyanka Chopra Joins Mahesh Babu in Rajamouli’s Varanasi
Noted actress Priyanka Chopra is set to play the female lead opposite Mahesh Babu in Varanasi, directed by ace filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli. Speaking during the promotions of her upcoming film The Bluff, Priyanka expressed immense admiration for the celebrated director and excitement about the prestigious project.
“It is a pleasure to act under the direction of Rajamouli, one of the best directors in India. This will be a meaningful film in my career. I, along with fans, am eagerly waiting for its release,” she said.
In Varanasi, Priyanka will be seen as Mandakini, a pivotal character central to the narrative. The film also features Prithviraj Sukumaran and Prakash Raj in key roles, adding further weight to the ensemble cast.
Earlier, Rajamouli had extended his best wishes to Priyanka for The Bluff through a glowing social media note, praising her commanding presence and fiery performance. The mutual admiration between the actress and the director has only heightened anticipation surrounding Varanasi.
Slated for a worldwide release on April 7, 2026, the film carries sky-high expectations as it marks Rajamouli’s first directorial venture after the global phenomenon RRR. The music is composed by M. M. Keeravani, while the story has been penned by V. Vijayendra Prasad.
Interestingly, Varanasi marks Priyanka Chopra’s debut in Telugu cinema. Sources reveal that she was keen to collaborate with Rajamouli after being impressed by his body of work. She reportedly requested a special dance number in the film, which the director gladly incorporated, resulting in a high-energy song featuring both Priyanka and Mahesh Babu.
