On March 26, Samsung introduced its latest A-series smartphones in India—the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G and Samsung Galaxy A37 5G—bringing a mix of design refinements, performance upgrades, and AI-driven features. Naturally, this has sparked comparisons with last year’s Samsung Galaxy A56 5G, especially given the noticeable price increase.
The Galaxy A57 largely retains the familiar design language of its predecessor, featuring a flat aluminium frame and Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection. However, it improves durability with an upgrade from IP67 to IP68 water resistance. It is also slimmer and lighter, measuring just 6.9mm in thickness and weighing 179 grams, compared to the A56’s 7.4mm thickness and 198 grams. On the display front, both devices offer a similar 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring a smooth and vibrant viewing experience.
In terms of cameras, the hardware remains unchanged. Both phones feature a triple camera setup consisting of a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 5MP macro camera, along with a 12MP front-facing camera. However, Samsung claims improved night photography performance on the A57, suggesting software-level enhancements rather than hardware upgrades.
Performance is where the Galaxy A57 sees a more noticeable improvement. It is powered by the new Exynos 1680, built on a 4nm process, offering better CPU, GPU, and AI capabilities, along with improved thermal management via a larger vapor chamber. In comparison, the A56 runs on the Exynos 1580, which already delivers reliable day-to-day performance. Both devices are equipped with a 5000mAh battery and support 45W fast charging.
When it comes to pricing, the Galaxy A57 is positioned significantly higher. It starts at ₹56,999 for the 8GB + 256GB variant and goes up to ₹62,499 for the 12GB + 256GB model. In contrast, the Galaxy A56 was launched at ₹41,999 for the base variant, with the 256GB versions priced up to ₹47,999. This creates a gap of around ₹12,000 for comparable storage options, making the A57 a costlier proposition in the mid-range segment.
Overall, the Galaxy A57 5G brings incremental upgrades in design, durability, and performance, along with AI enhancements. However, with similar display and camera hardware and a steep price hike, the upgrade decision largely depends on whether users value the improved chipset and refined build enough to justify the extra cost. For many, the Galaxy A56 may still remain a more value-for-money option.
