From film-to-film, the national award winner Akshay Kumar is not just breaking box-office records but also attracting the interest of audiences. His gravitation towards real incidents/stories (biopic drama) is clear with his choice of films – Air Lift, Rustom and Padman.
And the first trailer of Akshay Kumar’s new sports film ‘Gold’, directed by Reema Kagti, is online. Reportedly, the Bollywood flick which is based on the true incidents of Indian Hockey team winning Olympic Gold Medal in 1948 features Akshay in the role of veteran Hockey legend Balbir Singh. According to a statement from the film’s director, ‘Gold showcases 12 crucial years of Indian Hockey in the history.’
The trailer presents subtle cues, pointing to India’s gold-victory in the Olympics and the struggle of Akshay Kumar in making the team highly competent and effective. Till 1948, team India won two gold medals, but it was under ‘British India’ and this film brings out the story of first gold-win by Indian team after Independence.
The trailer opens with the vocals of chauvinistic Akshay describing his love for the game of ‘Hockey’ and his promise to make team India win gold.
Co-produced by multi-faceted Farhan Akthar, Gold is slated for theatrical release on 15th August. Although trailer appear to be on the lines of Chak De, Sultan, Mary Kom, Dangal and few other Hindi films, we assume audiences are ready to consume more such biopic/sport dramas. Other actors of the movie include Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Mouni Roy and Vineet Kumar Singh.
