Once regarded as one of the most sought-after directors in Telugu cinema, Gunasekhar built a strong reputation for blending creativity with commercial appeal. His ability to deliver stylish, emotionally driven films once made him a favorite among top stars and producers. However, a series of box office disappointments—including Varudu, Nippu, Rudhramadevi, and Shaakuntalam—gradually impacted his standing in the industry.
Gunasekhar’s ambitious dream project Hiranya Kashyapa, which he worked on for nearly three years, was eventually shelved due to unforeseen challenges, further adding to his difficult phase. Acknowledging the realities of the film industry, the director has candidly admitted that success alone commands attention, and that he must re-establish himself through results.
Now, Gunasekhar is attempting a fresh start with Euphoria, a modestly scaled film featuring newcomers and minimal hype—marking a sharp contrast to his earlier grand productions. Scheduled for a February release, the film has been made on a budget of approximately ₹20 crore, a bold gamble without star power. Despite the risks, Gunasekhar remains confident that strong content will resonate with audiences and help him reclaim his position, viewing Euphoria not as a setback-driven choice, but as a determined step toward reinvention.
