Jana Nayagan Makers Move to Settle CBFC Issue for Early Release

With no clear resolution in sight to the prolonged legal dispute, the makers of Thalapathy Vijay’s farewell film Jana Nayagan have reportedly decided to resolve the controversy outside the court to ensure a smooth theatrical release.

According to recent reports from Kollywood media, KVN Productions has chosen to withdraw its legal case against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which had earlier referred the film to a Revising Committee. This decision had escalated into a major legal battle between the certification board and the film’s team, resulting in significant delays.

Sources reveal that the move was finalised after consultations with Vijay, especially following the Madras High Court’s decision to set aside a single judge’s order and direct a fresh hearing of the writ petition. With the legal process pushing the release into further uncertainty and already impacting the film’s theatrical prospects, the makers are believed to have opted for a practical solution. They are now expected to approach the CBFC’s Revising Committee at the earliest and have reportedly agreed to implement all suggested changes and modifications to secure censor certification.

After the High Court’s latest order, industry observers had speculated that Jana Nayagan might release only after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. However, the production team appears determined not to delay the film any further, and a new release date is expected to be announced soon.

Directed by H Vinoth and produced by Venkat K. Narayana, Jana Nayagan is a political action thriller inspired by the Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari. The film features Vijay, Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, and Mamitha Baiju in key roles. It was originally scheduled to hit theatres on January 9 as a Pongal release.
