Harish Shankar Faces Backlash Over ‘Ustaad Bhagat Singh’ Claims

Director Harish Shankar went all out promoting Ustaad Bhagat Singh even before its release, and he continues to carry that promotional torch post-release. However, some of his statements are raising eyebrows among fans, especially as he begins comparing the film to a classic commercial entertainer.

Recently, in a TV interview, Harish Shankar claimed that the Sreeleela episode in the second half is thrilling for family audiences. The reality, however, seems different—most viewers found that episode dull, with the only highlight being the nostalgic “Ee Manase” song from Tholi Prema. This is just one example, as the director has been making bold claims while theatres report low occupancy, reflecting audience indifference toward the film’s bland content. Factors like lingering #OG mania, Pawan Kalyan’s routine commercial approach, and a lack of engaging direction have clearly affected Ustaad Bhagat Singh’s performance.

By continuing to make such statements in interviews, Harish Shankar risks attracting social media trolling. A more constructive approach might be self-reflection—acknowledging what didn’t work, much like Amitabh Bachchan has done in his career. Accepting the shortcomings of deviating from the Theri remake formula could help him create more original and engaging content in his next project, giving audiences something truly fresh to look forward to.
