Director Prem Responds to Keddy: The Devil Song Controversy

The controversy surrounding the song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” from the pan-India film Keddy: The Devil has drawn attention, prompting director Prem to respond. The criticism largely revolves around the Hindi lyrics of the song. Speaking to the media, Prem suggested that it might be unnecessary to turn a single song into such a big controversy.

“The song was released in five languages. I wrote the Kannada lyrics myself, but I am not very familiar with Hindi. So, I don’t fully understand the meaning of the Hindi version,” he explained.

Prem also emphasized that filmmakers should focus on more pressing issues facing the country. He highlighted global conflicts and domestic challenges such as gas shortages, suggesting that these deserve more attention than a single song lyric.

He clarified that while discussions about the song are understandable, exaggerating it into a major controversy is not appropriate. Prem denied reports claiming the controversy was deliberately created. He added that Keddy: The Devil is primarily an emotional story, and the song was included purely as a fun party sequence to entertain audiences. He also noted that the song has been well received in states like Karnataka and Kerala.

The Hindi version of the song was recently removed from YouTube following criticism on social media, though the other language versions continue to be available. On the controversy, actress Rakshita, Prem’s wife, also commented. She pointed out that many songs in the past contained similar lyrics, such as Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai, Peelings, and Dreamum Wakeupum, yet they did not attract such widespread attention. She questioned why this particular song is being treated differently.

The film stars Dhruva Sarja in the lead role, with Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and actress Nora Fatehi in key roles. Produced on a large budget, the movie is slated for a pan-India release, with post-production currently underway. Keddy: The Devil is scheduled to release worldwide on April 30. Despite the controversy, audience interest in the film remains high, and it will be interesting to see how it performs at the box office.
