Akhanda 2 Ends Box Office Run as Major Disappointment

Akhanda 2, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead role, has concluded its theatrical run on a disappointing note at the box office.

Despite strong expectations driven by the success of the first installment, the sequel failed to live up to the hype and wrapped up with a worldwide gross of under ₹130 crore, falling well short of industry success benchmarks.

The Telugu fantasy action thriller released in theatres on December 12, 2025, and opened to mixed-to-negative reviews from critics. Audience word of mouth also remained below average, resulting in a sharp drop in collections after the initial opening days.

While Akhanda 2 registered the second-biggest opening of Balakrishna’s career in India, poor audience reception led to heavy declines soon after. As per final estimates, the film collected approximately ₹94.5 crore net domestically, translating to ₹111.51 crore gross. Its run was further impacted by reduced screenings following the release of The Raja Saab.

Overseas performance was equally underwhelming, with the film earning only ₹12.35 crore gross. With this, the worldwide closing total stands at around ₹123.86 crore gross.

Given its high budget, Akhanda 2 managed to recover only about 47.25% of its investment, resulting in a deficit of nearly 52.75%. While the film did achieve a few opening-day milestones for Balakrishna, the overall theatrical outcome places it firmly among the major box-office disappointments in recent times.
