I&B ministry sends directives to media channels following Rakul’s defamation suit

It was well known that earlier when Rhea was summoned in drug trafficking case, Rakul Preet’s name along with few other Bollywood A listers sprung up. NCB also served summons in this regard, however it was not proven yet that Rakul was invovled in drug consumption.

Meanwhile media channels portrayed Rakul in bad light with half truth as claimed by her. The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry on Friday, issued a warning to all the private news channels to not air any content that is ‘indecent, slanderous’ and ‘censures and defames or criticises’ any people or group in the nation. It sent advisories and commanded to adhere to the Programme and Advertising Codes as prescribed under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and the rules framed thereunder.

The warning was given in the light of the request sent by the Delhi High Court to the channels after actress Rakul Preet Singh’s defamation suit on 17 September urging for a ban from the High court.

HC sent directives to the I&B Ministry, the Press Council of India, and the National Broadcasting Association to register a status report comprehending all the measures they are taking to ensure what Rakul had sought in her plea. The court also given a deadline of October 15 to the ministry for the same
