It’s common to see children following in their parents’ footsteps—doctors becoming doctors, actors becoming actors. However, it’s rare to see an actor’s son stepping into the industry not just as an actor, but also as a producer before his on-screen debut. That is exactly what is happening with Inban Udhayanidhi, the son of prominent actor-turned-politician Udhayanidhi Stalin.
Inban has recently been making headlines in Tamil media for taking charge of his father’s production banner, Red Giant Movies, established in 2008. With Udhayanidhi Stalin fully occupied with his political career, Inban has assumed responsibilities for the banner and is also being positioned to take on acting roles in the near future.
Official announcements have confirmed that Red Giant Movies will release the theatrical rights of Dhanush-starrer Idli Kadai, under Inban’s supervision.
Red Giant Movies has been a significant player in Tamil cinema since its inception. The banner’s first film was Kuruthi, directed by Dharani, starring Vijay and Trisha. Over the years, it has produced several notable films including Aadhavan (2009), Manmadhan Ambu (2010), Aelayum Arivu (2011), Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (2012), Neerparavai (2012), Vanakkam Chennai (2013), Manithan (2016), and Mamannan (2023). In 2025 alone, Red Giant Movies released two films: Kadalikka Neramillai, directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, and Kamal Haasan–Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life.
Idli Kadai, scheduled for theatrical release on October 1, stars Arun Vijay, Nithya Menen, Rajkiran, and Samuthirakani, with music by GV Prakash Kumar and cinematography by Kiran Kaushik.
While Red Giant Movies has had its share of blockbusters, it has also faced several flops, creating pressure on Inban to steer the banner in the right direction. With the responsibility now on his shoulders, Inban is tasked with reviving the banner’s success while simultaneously preparing for his own acting career.
