During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Paris, India and France reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across a variety of sectors, including education, innovation, trade, and mobility. A joint statement issued by both nations highlighted several key developments that underscore the growing partnership between the two countries.
The number of Indian students in France is expected to reach an all-time high of 10,000 this year, driven in part by the success of the International Classes Scheme. Launched last year, this initiative aims to enhance student mobility by offering preparatory academic courses and French language training at top French universities. This initiative has already proven successful and is expected to continue growing, with the goal of reaching 30,000 Indian students in France by 2030.
In addition to educational initiatives, the two leaders also marked the operationalization of the Young Professionals Scheme (YPS), which forms part of the India-France Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement (MMPA). The YPS is designed to facilitate two-way mobility for youth and professionals, creating greater opportunities for cultural and professional exchange between the two countries.
Further solidifying their cooperation, PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on skill development, vocational education, and training. This partnership will enhance cooperation in these critical areas, fostering a highly skilled workforce equipped to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing global economy.
A key highlight of the meeting was the launch of the India-France Roadmap on Artificial Intelligence (AI), which sets a framework for the development of secure, trustworthy, and ethical AI systems. The two countries emphasized the importance of developing AI technologies grounded in shared philosophical values, ensuring that their growth contributes to global good.
The leaders also welcomed the inclusion of Indian startups in the French Startup Incubator Station F, a move that will further boost collaboration and innovation between the two nations. This initiative is expected to provide Indian entrepreneurs with valuable resources and access to a vibrant ecosystem for scaling their ventures in Europe.
As India and France continue to strengthen their ties, these initiatives lay the foundation for a deeper and more comprehensive partnership, benefiting both nations in various sectors and setting the stage for further cooperation in the coming years.
