India Invites, British PM As Republic Day Chief Guest, He Accepts!

In a most significant move to strengthen the bilateral relations between India and Britain, India has invited UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson for the Republic Day Parade as the chief guest.

The latest development came as a result of productive talks held by Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar with UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Rennie Raab today.

It is said that UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has accepted India’s invitation to attend the Republic Day Parade as the chief guest on January 26.

In a series of tweets, S Jaishankar said, they discussed issues related to strengthening the India-UK partnership. Global issues and multilateral organizations were also discussed in the meeting.

The main motto of holding talks is to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries. Connecting people, trade and prosperity, defence & security, climate change, and health are the main issues that are said to be discussed.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will come to India in January, which marks the first-ever bilateral visit after to took the office as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

This also marks the first visit of any head of government to India. Given the Covid-19 situations, all the visits were suspended not only in India but globally.
