Bangkok, April 4 (IANS): Nepal’s Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli described his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok as “extremely fruitful and positive.”

Taking to X, PM Oli expressed his satisfaction with the discussions, stating, “I had a cordial meeting with my dear friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji. Our conversation was extremely fruitful and positive. I express my pleasure at this cordial meeting.”

The meeting reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between India and Nepal, with both leaders underscoring their commitment to deepening the multifaceted partnership between the two nations. Nepal remains a priority partner for India under its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, and the discussions reflected the ongoing tradition of regular high-level engagements between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi also highlighted the significance of the meeting in a post on X, stating, “Had a productive meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Bangkok. India attaches immense priority to relations with Nepal. We discussed different aspects of India-Nepal friendship, especially in sectors like energy, connectivity, culture, and digital technology. We also talked about some of the key positive outcomes from this year’s BIMSTEC Summit, especially in areas of disaster management and maritime transport.”

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that both leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress made in enhancing physical and digital connectivity, people-to-people exchanges, and cooperation in the energy sector. This meeting followed their previous engagement during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York last year.

Ahead of the meeting, a Nepali foreign ministry official was quoted by the media as stating that the discussion could pave the way for Prime Minister Oli’s long-awaited official bilateral visit to India.

India and Nepal share deep-rooted civilizational and cultural ties, reflected in the robust people-to-people connections. India remains Nepal’s largest developmental partner, with significant investments in large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly in priority areas such as health, education, and connectivity. The meeting in Bangkok further cemented the shared vision of both nations to strengthen cooperation for mutual growth and regional stability.
