In the aftermath of the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists, the Government of India has announced a sweeping suspension of all visa services for Pakistani nationals. The decision, which includes the revocation of all existing visas, was taken during a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) chaired on Thursday.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that effective April 27, 2025, all valid visas issued to Pakistani citizens — including medical visas — will stand cancelled. In a limited concession, medical visa holders have been granted a grace period until April 29, 2025, to exit the country. No new visa applications from Pakistani nationals will be processed until further notice.

“All existing valid visas issued by India to Pakistani nationals stand revoked with effect from 27 April 2025. Medical visas issued to Pakistani nationals will be valid only till 29 April 2025,” the MEA said in its official statement.

The directive also mandates Pakistani nationals currently residing in India to leave the country before the expiration of their revised visa validity. Concurrently, Indian citizens have been strongly advised to avoid traveling to Pakistan, while those currently in the country are urged to return at the earliest possible opportunity.

The terror group known as The Resistance Front (TRF), affiliated with the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack, intensifying bilateral tensions.

In response, India has launched a robust diplomatic campaign to galvanize international support. Senior envoys from Germany, Japan, Poland, the United Kingdom, and Russia were summoned to New Delhi and briefed on the gravity of the incident, as India seeks global condemnation and coordinated pressure on Pakistan.

This unprecedented diplomatic and security move underscores India’s firm stance against cross-border terrorism and its commitment to safeguarding national security.
