In a significant step toward enhancing bilateral relations and easing travel procedures, the Government of India has officially launched a fully digital e-visa facility for Kuwaiti citizens. The announcement was made by India’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Adarsh Swaika, during a press conference held on Sunday.
“Kuwaiti citizens will now be able to apply for Indian visas entirely online,” said Dr. Swaika, describing the move as a “qualitative shift” in India-Kuwait relations. “This has been a long-standing request from Kuwaiti nationals and is a testament to the deep-rooted and historic ties between our two countries.”
Under the new system, Kuwaiti nationals can apply for e-visas across five key categories:
Tourism
Business
Medical
Conference
AYUSH (covering traditional Indian systems of medicine, including Ayurveda and Yoga)
The entire visa application process — including form submission, document uploads, and payment — can now be completed online, eliminating the need for physical visits to visa application centers. Biometric data will be collected upon arrival at Indian airports.
According to the Indian Embassy, most visa applications are expected to be processed within three to four working days, with minor delays possible during the initial phase of implementation.
A notable highlight is the introduction of a long-term tourist visa valid for up to five years, available at a fee of $80. Other visa categories range in cost from $40 to $80, depending on the purpose and duration of travel.
Ambassador Swaika emphasized that the initiative is not only about enhancing convenience but also forms part of India’s broader strategy to modernize consular services and expand digital diplomacy in the Gulf region. “We hope this digital transformation will make travel more seamless and further strengthen the cultural and economic connections between India and Kuwait,” he concluded.
