Indian Illegal Immigrant Arrested in Fiery California Crash That Killed Three

San Bernardino County, California: A 21-year-old Indian man, identified as Jashanpreet Singh, has been arrested on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated after a devastating semi-truck crash that killed three people in Southern California.

According to US media reports, the incident occurred when Singh’s Freightliner tractor-trailer slammed into slow-moving traffic on a San Bernardino County freeway, causing a fiery collision that left at least three people dead and several others injured. The crash was captured on Singh’s dashboard camera.

Authorities said Singh, who was allegedly under the influence of drugs, failed to apply brakes before the crash. His toxicology reports confirmed impairment. “He was transported to the hospital, and our officers determined he was driving under the influence of drugs,” said CHP Officer Rodrigo Jimenez, as quoted by ABC7 News.

Singh reportedly entered the United States illegally in 2022, crossing through the southern border. He was first detained by Border Patrol agents in California’s El Centro Sector in March 2022 but was later released under the Biden administration’s “alternatives to detention” policy, which allows migrants to await court hearings outside custody.

The US Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Singh lacks lawful immigration status. Following his arrest, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged an immigration detainer against him.

The victims of the crash have not yet been publicly identified. Singh and a roadside mechanic assisting another driver were among those injured.

This incident follows another fatal crash involving an Indian immigrant truck driver in August, when Harjinder Singh was accused of causing a collision in Fort Pierce, Florida, that claimed three lives.
