Infinix Unveils Solar-Powered Smartphone and Next-Gen Color-Changing E Ink Phone at MWC 2025
At Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, Infinix has showcased two groundbreaking concept devices that push the boundaries of mobile technology—a solar-powered smartphone and a color-changing E Ink phone. While both are still in the prototype phase, they underscore the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainable technology.
Harnessing Solar Energy for Extended Battery Life
The Infinix solar-powered smartphone features an integrated solar panel on the back, utilizing SolarEnergy-Reserving technology. This system is powered by perovskite solar cells, which are thinner, more cost-effective, and easier to manufacture than traditional silicon-based alternatives.
To enhance energy efficiency, the device employs Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), a system designed to optimize power flow and prevent overheating in direct sunlight. While the solar panel currently generates up to 2W of power, it is intended to extend battery life rather than serve as a primary charging solution.
Infinix has also introduced an innovative solar-powered phone case. Unlike the built-in solar panel, this detachable accessory offers users the flexibility to switch between standard protection and solar-powered functionality. It connects to the phone via small side contacts, eliminating the need for additional charging ports. This solution could prove invaluable in emergency scenarios, outdoor adventures, or power outages, where even a modest energy boost can be crucial.
Advancing E Ink Technology with Customizable Color-Changing Panels
Beyond solar innovation, Infinix is also refining its color-changing E Ink phone. The second-generation model builds on its predecessor by allowing users to change colors and patterns directly from the phone’s internal battery, rather than requiring a wired connection.
This enhancement enables greater customization, with users able to choose from a range of preset designs or leverage an AI-powered system to match the back panel’s colors to photos, weather conditions, or personal preferences. This feature enhances both aesthetic appeal and user engagement, showcasing Infinix’s forward-thinking approach to mobile personalization.
The Future of Infinix’s Concept Innovations
While these devices remain in the concept stage, they highlight Infinix’s experimental approach to smartphone technology. Whether or not these innovations reach commercial production, they signal a growing industry shift toward sustainability, personalization, and energy efficiency.
As the mobile market continues to evolve, Infinix’s pioneering efforts in solar energy integration and adaptive E Ink displays position the brand as a key player in the future of smartphone technology.
