There are growing indications that Nara Lokesh may be appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. This move is seen as a strategic effort to elevate his stature to match that of Pawan Kalyan.
TDP leaders, including Somireddy Chandra Mohan Reddy and R. Srinivasulu Reddy, have expressed support for this proposal. Simultaneously, BJP leaders are reportedly pushing for one of their own to also be made a Deputy CM, considering the coalition government comprises three parties.
If this proposal materializes, it could potentially dilute Pawan Kalyan’s prominence as Deputy CM, diminishing his influence within the alliance. Consequently, some members of the Janasena Party are insisting that Pawan Kalyan should instead be made the Chief Minister if Nara Lokesh is elevated to Deputy CM.
Janasena members argue that Pawan Kalyan’s efforts were instrumental in bringing the BJP into the alliance, securing significant victories for Kutami candidates in the 2024 elections.
Speculation is rife that Chandrababu Naidu plans to position Nara Lokesh as the Chief Minister by 2026, ahead of the critical 2027 general and Jamili elections.
This scenario has sparked concerns about a potential power struggle. If Lokesh’s influence grows, Pawan Kalyan’s may wane, and vice versa, setting the stage for a political tug-of-war within the coalition.
Some observers liken the unfolding political dynamics in Andhra Pradesh to the intrigue of Baahubali, with Chandrababu Naidu compared to Bijjaladeva and the BJP cast in the role of Shivagami.
