The regional parties in India are more or less the fiefdom of some families and beyond them, the mantle doesn’t get passed on to anyone else no matter how hard they may have been working. The same now holds good for YSRCP, TRS and TDP in Telugu states. For TDP chief Naidu, there is a bit of hurry to anoint Lokesh with key responsibilities.
Lokesh made his formal entry only two years ago and his campaign wasn’t that effective as well but he was anyway made in—charge of party cadre. This is usually considered as an ideal stint because it helps potential leaders to go in for mass contact and in return earn the goodwill of cadre which helps them to strengthen the base.
At a time when many MLC elections are nominations are due, Naidu has reportedly entrusted election of candidates to Lokesh and this is being seen by some people are too quick and in a too much hurry fashion. They feel Lokesh has a lot to learn before taking up such key tasks which would impact leader’s loyalty.
Elections are four years away but like Telangana, once the next election mood sets in, even in Andhra, Lokesh may be seen as an excuse for others to quit TDP. Hence, the progression of Lokesh into TDP echelons of power has to be gradual, feel TDP leaders and also analysts.
