The Telangana media, which played a major role during the movement for separate Telangana, seems have lost its spine after the formation of new State, so much so that it is completely going head over heels before Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The reports that KCR is getting irritated at the very sight of media in the Secretariat premises and has issued orders banning entry of media has sent shocking waves among the people. Journalists go to Secretariat regularly not for any personal gains, but to gather news.
They cannot rely entirely on press releases. They would have to meet officials and their sources within the government to get inside stories. If they really disturb the working atmosphere, the government can take action, but a blanket ban on media entry into the Secretariat is undemocratic.
However, what is shocking is the weak protests from the scribes to the decision. On Friday, Telangana media personnel wanted to stage a dharna in front of the Secretariat, but did not dare to do so, fearing that it would antagonize KCR.
A few of the Secretariat beat reports met CM’s media advisor K V Ramanachary and expressed their anguish. And he assured that he would try to get the issue resolved by talking to Chief Minister. “We don’t have any plans to ban media into the Secretariat.
KCR is sympathetic towards media,” he said. Sources said KCR is firm on the decision and at the most, he might climb down a bit by allowing only those media personnel who are given special passes to enter the Secretariat. And the Telangana scribes have no spine to oppose the restricted entry!
