Kerala Story 2 Falls Short at Box Office

Kerala Story sequel Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond finally made its way to theatres after weeks of intense media scrutiny, court hearings, and temporary stays that delayed its release. However, despite the controversy-driven buzz, the film has struggled to replicate the success of its predecessor.
The first installment, released in 2023, benefited greatly from the novelty of its subject and the widespread curiosity it generated. This time, however, the sequel’s reliance on a similar dramatic template appears to have weakened its impact, with audiences showing noticeably less enthusiasm for a repeated narrative approach.
The box-office numbers reflect this dip in interest. In its first four days, the film has managed to collect approximately ₹13 crore net — a figure considered underwhelming given the scale of pre-release hype and the recall value of the franchise.
Trade analysts point out that the collections are significantly lower than expected for a follow-up to a previously successful and widely discussed film. The response suggests that while controversy and aggressive promotions can create initial buzz, sustained audience engagement ultimately depends on fresh storytelling and evolved content.
Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amritlal Shah, the film hit theatres on February 27.
The lukewarm reception serves as a reminder of the challenges sequels face — particularly when they fail to expand beyond the core idea that once made the original a talking point.
