One of the most iconic films in Telugu cinema history, Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari, is set for a grand theatrical re-release on May 9, 2025, marking the 35th anniversary of its original release. Directed by the legendary K. Raghavendra Rao and produced by C. Ashwini Dutt under the prestigious Vyjayanthi Movies banner, the film returns to enchant a new generation of moviegoers in stunning remastered 2D and 3D formats.

Originally released on May 9, 1990, Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari broke box office records and captivated audiences with its unique blend of socio-fantasy, compelling storytelling, and unforgettable performances. The film became a cultural phenomenon, with ticket prices soaring in the black market—a testament to its unprecedented popularity.

Starring Megastar Chiranjeevi as a kind-hearted tourist guide and the legendary Sridevi as Indraja, a celestial princess from Indra Lokam, the film also features a stellar supporting cast including Amrish Puri, Allu Ramalingaiah, Kannada Prabhakar, Brahmanandam, Tanikella Bharani, Rami Reddy, Baby Shalini, and Baby Shamlee.

Crafted with grandeur and vision, Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari was among the most expensive Indian productions of its time. Its visual spectacle was brought to life by cinematographers Ajayan Vincent and K.S. Prakash, while its soul-stirring music was composed by the Maestro Ilaiyaraaja. The film’s story, penned by acclaimed writer Yandamuri Veerendranath and brought to screen by screenwriter Jandhyala, remains a benchmark in Telugu storytelling.

The film’s musical legacy is equally legendary. Songs like Abbani Theeyani Debba, composed in record time by Ilaiyaraaja and written by lyricist Veturi during a lunch break, continue to resonate with audiences. Director K. Raghavendra Rao revealed that the chartbuster Andalalo was specifically crafted to highlight the divine contrast between the heroine and the common-man hero. Meanwhile, producer Ashwini Dutt recalled Chiranjeevi’s unwavering dedication, filming the energetic Dinakutta song while battling a 106-degree fever, to complete the shoot within the limited schedule of Sridevi’s availability.

In a nostalgic reflection, Sridevi once mentioned Priyathama as her favourite track from the film, praising its elegant simplicity and emotional depth—an artistic vision beautifully captured with minimal choreography and expressive close-ups.

As Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari returns to theatres, this re-release offers fans and cinephiles a rare opportunity to experience its timeless charm on the big screen once again. With cutting-edge remastering and a blend of nostalgia and new-age technology, the film promises to be a cinematic celebration like no other.

This summer, witness the magic unfold once again—Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari re-releases in theatres across the globe on May 9, 2025.
