Jagan gets exemption from CBI court appearance

A CBI special court in Hyderabad on Friday accorded exemption to Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy from appearing before the court in disproportionate assets case.

YSRCP MP and party’s general secretary Vijayasai Reddy also secured exemption.

With this, both got a relief from attending the CBI court in Nampally, Hyderabad yesterday. However, this is one-time exemption only.

Jagan needs to apply for exemption again next Friday, if he wants to skip court.

It may be recalled that Jagan needs to appear before CBI court every Friday to face trail in disproportionate assets cases filed by CBI.

Allowing two pleas, filed on behalf of both Jagan and his party’s MP Vijayasai Reddy, the court granted them exemption. Principal special judge BR Madhusudan Rao gave these orders while hearing cases pertaining to the main case.

The CBI, it can be recalled, has filed as many 11 chargesheets on various episodes such as India Cements, Vanpic, and Dalmia Cements.

The counsel for Jagan urged the court to hear together the discharge petitions filed by them in all these cases. The judge told them that he will hold a hearing on this aspect and pronounce his decision thereafter.

Petitioners’ counsel cited Jagan’s busy schedule as chief minister of AP as reason for seeking exemption, and the meeting of party legislators was shown as reason for Vijayasai Reddy’s plea.

Several politicians and officials who were shown as accused, too, filed exemption pleas, which too were allowed.

Industrialists, Indu Syam Prasad Reddy, Pratap Reddy, Srinivasan, Nimmagadda Prasad, Ayodhya Rami Reddy appeared before the court.
