Jagan Mohan Reddy Slams AP Govt Over ‘Jungle Raj’ Allegations

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party President Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has alleged that the state has descended into what he described as a “Jungle Raj,” claiming that law enforcement agencies are failing to protect citizens, especially tribals, women, and the poor.

In a post on social media platform X, Jagan Mohan Reddy said that emergency helplines are going unanswered, while “predators roam freely” and innocent lives are being lost amid what he called a lack of governance focus. He further accused those in power of prioritising “corruption, publicity stunts, and power politics” over public safety.

He highlighted the tragic case of a 17-year-old tribal girl, claiming she became another victim of systemic failure. According to him, the girl was taken from her family under the promise of education and care. He alleged that on March 22, a civil engineer approached her family in Hiramandalam, Srikakulam district, offering tuition support. The next day, she was taken to Visakhapatnam, where she was reportedly subjected to repeated sexual assault, and by March 24, her body was returned to her parents.

Jagan Mohan Reddy also alleged attempts to pressure the family into a hurried and silent cremation, raising concerns of a possible cover-up. He added that a post-mortem was conducted at the Srikakulam Government General Hospital after public pressure, while police initially showed no urgency and acted only after a complaint. He further claimed that no arrests had been made so far.

He also referred to a bus fire incident in Markapuram on Thursday morning, alleging that it exposed another failure of the state machinery, with delayed response leading to the loss of 14 lives. According to him, institutions meant to respond to emergencies have not acted effectively.

Criticising the current Chandrababu Naidu-led government, Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that governance in the state has collapsed and that only “PR-driven politics” is being carried out. He further remarked that under what he termed “Red Book governance,” the police are functioning as “puppets” while citizens continue to suffer without protection.
