YSR Congress president, YS Jagan, was recently taken aback by the unexpected resignation of Vijay Sai Reddy, which not only resulted in the loss of a close ally but also caused the party to lose a Rajya Sabha MP. Nearly three weeks after the resignation, Jagan finally addressed the situation in a candid statement.
During a recent interview, Jagan emphasized the importance of character and credibility in politics, highlighting that a politician should never succumb to pressure and shift allegiances. “Politicians must uphold their character to represent their leader with integrity. Shifting sides due to external pressures doesn’t reflect well,” Jagan remarked. He also mentioned that power in a democracy is never permanent, and while politicians may hold power for a time, their true character will determine their lasting legacy.
Jagan’s comments were perceived as a pointed response to Sai Reddy’s departure and the other Rajya Sabha MPs who followed suit. Rather than brushing off the resignations as personal decisions, Jagan used the opportunity to discuss the significance of maintaining credibility in politics, which some speculate may have been a direct critique of Sai Reddy’s actions. His response was viewed by many as an indication that the resignation affected him more than he let on, as he chose to address the issue publicly with strong words.
