YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who has been maintaining distance from the media, seems to have at last understood the need to improve the relations with the media.
Apparently coming to know about a spate of negative reports in the media, especially the natonal media, against his government with regard to various decisions taken by him in the last 100 days, Jagan reportedly called his media wing team for a brief meeting on Monday afternoon.
He enquired about how the media had responded to his 100-day rule, he was shocked to know the response from the media team.
They reportedly told him that the media coverage was not so encouraging and there is a need to improve the system of media management and public relations.
Apparently, the media wing told Jagan that the officials are not cooperating with them in taking the government decisions into the media and public.
Jagan immediately asked them to bring it to the notice of his communications advisor G V D Krishna Mohan and asked them to work out a strategy.
The media team in the CMO reportedly suggested to Jagan that he should start meeting editors and team leaders of various media houses.
They told him that NTV chairman Narendra Chowdary had sought an appointment with the chief minister and sent reminders several times.
Jagan immediately asked his personal staff to fix the appointment with NTV Chowdary at the earliest. He also directed that appointments be given to media heads, one person per week, so that he could develop rapport with the media.
He, however, said he did not want to give interviews to any media house till he completes at least one year in office.
The other day, Sakshi TV team was in Vijayawada to do an interview with Jagan on the completion of 100 years, but he flatly refused to give an interview at least till he completes one year.
