Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, president of the YSR Congress Party, is shifting focus towards capturing strongholds of the Telugu Desam Party as part of a renewed electoral strategy after recent setbacks.
As part of this plan, the party has appointed a new coordinator for the Repalle Assembly constituency in Guntur district, a seat that has long remained a TDP bastion. Sitting minister Anagani Satya Prasad has secured victories here in 2014, 2019, and 2024, even during the strong YSRCP wave in 2019.
To strengthen its presence, YSRCP has now entrusted Peeta Naga Mohan Krishna as the constituency coordinator. A native of Peta Varipalem and a Hyderabad-based businessman, he has already begun touring the constituency to rebuild the party’s grassroots network.
Repalle has been a challenging seat for YSRCP. In 2014 and 2019, Mopidevi Venkata Ramana lost to Satya Prasad. Despite later being accommodated in the Legislative Council and even the Rajya Sabha, Mopidevi eventually resigned and joined the TDP, dealing a blow to YSRCP.
Ahead of the 2024 elections, the party fielded Dr. Evuru Ganesh, but he too failed to secure victory. With leadership gaps and organizational weakness becoming evident, the party is now banking on Mohan Krishna to revive its fortunes.
Whether this strategic shift and new leadership can finally help YSRCP break the TDP’s dominance in Repalle remains to be seen.
